Great service station!

If he was indeed a good mechanic with "fair" prices and in business for 25 years, one would think my negative review would be anomaly in a vast sea of positive reviews. He seems to have 5 positive reviews in 25 years of business....so there's that too...

Look at some of the cars that are in his shop, many times there will be an old Mercedes, BMW, or even a vintage Ferrari.

That being said, I also have a herniated C5-C6 disk and a fractured lumbar disk and go to a pain clinic, apparently he was able to deduce this isn't the case with his X-ray vision. Even though my pain doctor has the MRIs to prove it. The only reason I am able to walk, and drive a car, is because of the medication I take daily.

I have been going to Ticks for about 5 years after a number of bad experiences with another local shop who was charging 50% markup on parts.

Not only does Shaun work on my daily drivers, but I also have him do maintenance work on my vintage 911.

I have been working on my own cars for about 30 years, but with all the new computer based diagnosis required, and just a lack of time have my daily drivers serviced at Ticks. Shaun has always provided quotes for work, based on the book estimates, but is always careful about disclosing that work could take longer due to unforeseen circumstances, i.e rusted parts, etc. Most of his estimates come in on budget and the car is always ready when he says it will be.

After my interaction at Ticks, I felt as if I was beng ripped off, or taken advantage of....

When I returned to collect my car and his obscene estimate, he was not present in the shop. The young man running the shop in his absence pulled up my account and couldn't locate my estimate. Now over the phone he's trying to change the prices due to my review. I remember he told me the tail light repair would be $275, because in my head $300 is what I thought the total of the repairs would cost, and he was already up to that amount without even discussing the exhaust. After that he said the exhaust would be an additional $375. I said, "Yeah....that's not happening..." and hung up on him.

He almost always recommends OEM parts, and even though they are more expensive they usually last longer than aftermarket parts that can be made poorly.

Would you bring your food to a restaurant and ask them to cook it for you?

In summary: Wow, what a jerk!

I've been going to Tick's Auto for my vehicle repairs since 2003. Every time I've had an issue with my beloved truck, Shaun and his crew always went above and beyond expectations. They treated me as a friend. They always repaired my truck well within the quoted budget; and there were never any subsequent problems. Thanks entirely to Tick's Auto Repair, my beloved 18 year-old daily driver just turned 220k miles, and is running stronger than ever! I also entrusted Shaun with one of my classic vehicles for a restoration. The results were unbelievable. The shop is incredibly clean, and they are the consummate professionals. I'd recommend Shaun Marston's Tick's Auto to anyone!

On the phone when discussing my review yesterday he informed me that he has been in business for 25 years and doesn't have any negative reviews. That is probably because he tries to "strong arm" anyone leaving a negative review and get them to take it down to pad his rating. He just had Facebook remove my review today....I have no idea how or on what grounds, but doing so is more proof of how dishonest his practices are.

Also, since he just had Facebook remove my review, it can also be found on Yelp and Sure Critic. Luckily at reputable review sites people can't have negative reviews removed because he doesn't like the review. If he wishes to keep having Facebook remove my accurate account of what has transpired thus far simply because he doesn't like it, I will repost my review here and elsewhere.

Also, I would like to add that two weeks after writing my review of my experience at Ticks Auto he called me to discuss taking it down, or at modifying my review to make it "more accurate" which I now have done. I don't have enough proof to call him a "rip off artist," but I can say "I felt as if I was being ripped off...."

Highly recommend Ticks! Shawn and Dustin are very helpful and professional and resurrected a 2004 BMW I purchased this year.

He wanted to charge $275 (after my review he is now claiming it was $212....he actually keeps lowering the prices in his "estimate" since my review, it's unfortunate he never gave me a hard copy of his original rip off estimate) to install a $50 tail light plastic housing on my 2006 Hyundai Sonata. Also, wanted to charge $375 to install a front flex exhaust pipe that costs $100. Don't trust anyone that cannot give you a rough estimate on pricing over the phone without leaving your car there. $150 worth of parts with $150 worth of labor, so obviously he would want to charge more than twice that.

I got my vehicle repaired with Cousins Autos also in Ipswich MA. The total cost for both items being repaired was $220, which included parts and labor....and he came to MY house to get my car and do the repairs. I gave him $240 because I was so happy with the price and service, since I am disabled and just wanted my car to pass inspection in the first place....

As far as the internet parts I understand the pricing difference verses the shop price, but on the other hand if you bring your own parts in who is going to deal with a part if it is defective? The shop should not have to get involved with warranty work on a part that you bought.

A trusted relationship with your shop is important and it takes some time to form that relationship. It is a two way street.

They are great! They helped me quick and helped me get back on the road to Vermont.

Out of all the reviews there is only one bad one; guess you can't make everyone happy.

Lastly the fact that he mocks the fact that I am disabled speaks volumes about the type of person he is in real life. I am not physically disabled I CAN walk, and drive a car, etc. I am on disability due to my inability to interact with people who behave like he does at the numerous jobs I have had. If he was my boss for instance, after speaking to me the way he has in his response to my negative review....I would have told him, "To go expletive himself!" Then he would fire me and I would be unemployed yet again. Apparently he isn't aware that it is possible for people to file for disability on the grounds of psychological issues....
